Newland Hi-Tech Group Co., Ltd. Established in 1994 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, the Company is a subsidiary of Newland Science & Technology Group Co., Ltd. Listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Main Board in 2000, it aspires to be "a pioneer in the construction of Digital China", it is dedicated to empowering digital economy development through technological innovation.

Newland has repeatedly led or participated in the development of national and industry standards for the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence, and possesses fully independent intellectual property rights for barcode decoding core technology and industry chip design technology.

Initial Entrepreneurship

With the vision of becoming a leading high-tech group characterized by industrialization, diversification, and internationalization, Newland established its product R&D and production systems, and laid the foundation for a nationwide sales network.

Newland was established, entering the financial terminal industry.

1994

Newland developed China’s first generation of standalone POS, breaking foreign technology monopolies and creating various financial application solutions and banking software around terminal products.

1996

(1998-2000)

Second Entrepreneurship

The company shifted from a technology-driven approach to a market-driven one, targeting public listing. During this stage, Newland established a balanced industry structure with three "pillars": peripheral computer products, mobile communication software services, and highway information technology.

Newland expanded into the construction of electromechanical systems for highways in Fujian.

1998

Newland pioneered 2D barcode decoding technology research and development.

1999

Undertook the construction of the first provincial mobile communication MBSS system in China.

1999

Newland became China's first company to independently develop modern UV air and water disinfection technology and products.

1999

Fujian Newland Computer Co., Ltd. listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Stock Code: 000997.

2000

(2001-2006)

Strategic Transformation

Newland evolved from a "product provider" to a dual role as both a "product and IT services provider," implementing important strategic changes.

Became the general integrator of the government network engineering of the "Digital Fujian" project.

2001

Signed the contract for the “Fuzhou Public Security Bureau 2D Barcode Temporary Resident Management System” project, marking China's first large-scale application of 2D barcode technology.

2001

Pioneered the nation's first provincial-wide "One-Card" toll collection system on the Ningde-Zhao'an Highway, the first of its kind in China.

2002

​Successfully developed 2D barcode OEM engines with completely independent core technology.

2003

Developed the "Legend of Erhai Lake" real estate project in Dali, Yunnan.

With the rise of mobile communications and e-commerce, the Company established an innovation department and pioneered China's first "third-party payment" business model.

2004

Newland launched the new data business product “Electronic Receipt” and continued to explore the transition from “Electronic Receipt” to “Electronic Voucher,” eventually innovating new mobile 2D barcode payment models, creating China's first 2D barcode movie tickets and electronic discount coupons.

2005

Transformation Milestones

First half: Implemented strategic management models to energize business units.


Second half: Strengthened synergy between market, technology, and engineering divisions, integrating new business formats and driving steady and robust growth.

Achieved major breakthrough in high-power ozone generator R&D and production, helping address China's wastewater treatment challenges and filling a domestic technological gap.

2007

Since entering the digital TV sector in 2006, the company has emerged as a top-tier player in China's digital TV industry, with the division becoming the Group's second-largest revenue and profit generator.

2008

Released the world's first 2D barcode decoding ASIC chip.

2010

Developed the "Newland No. 1" real estate project to address key employees' housing needs, with surplus units marketed commercially under the government's support.

2010

Fujian Newland Development Co., Ltd. was renamed to Fujian Newland Science & Technology Group Co., Ltd., followed by another name change to Newland Science & Technology Group Co., Ltd. in 2015.

2011

By entering the vocational education sector and establishing a new IoT education and R&D system, the company is now the only recognized national-level industry-education integration enterprise in Fujian Province.

President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, inspected Newland.
